Guiding Question: Do you know how to do
Algebra?
Welcome to Algebra! I have no doubt that you can be successful
in this course whether you are taking it for the first time or
you doing it again. Most people already know a lot about
Algebra concepts and it is just a matter of applying that
knowledge that you already have!
You
can do well in Algebra by taking the time to learn how to do
each concept. There are a lot of resources you have that can
help you to learn the material on your own. (Of course, your
teacher is always available by email or phone). For some
students, doing the problems in the math book will be all you
need to learn the material, other students may enjoy the various
online math tutorials to learn the material, while others may
find that meeting with a math teacher once a week will work best
for them. It is up to you to decide which works best for you so
that you can achieve your goals for Algebra I.
STUDENT RESOURCES: If you’re
reading this, you should have already gone through the training
and received an Algebra CD and the log in information for the
various online resources (if not, email your teacher). See the
variety of resources that you have at your fingertips to help in
your study and learning of algebra by clicking on “student
resources.”
ONGOING WORK:
Ongoing Activities in Online Algebra
- All work will be completed for this
course via the online “test” area, emailed to your teacher, or
face to face. Each lesson will tell you how to complete the
work.
- SET GAME - Do the “SETS game” 3
times a week. Record the amount of time it takes you
to solve the SET game each time and keep track in an Excel
Spreadsheet. Set Game -

- Complete and turn in the activity log at
the end of each module.
- Module Tests need to be taken face to
face (Wednesday or Thursday from 3-5) unless special
arrangements are made with the teacher. You can do two module
tests at a time to economize your time.
HOW DO I TURN IN
MY MATH WORK?
 |
Some assignments are out of the math
book while others will be online and part of the online
“test” section. You will be working out of the math book,
Prentice Hall Algebra which you should have already
checked out of your school library. To turn in your math
work, you can:
- Email a Word document with
questions and answers to the teacher
- Email scanned hand-written work
to the teacher (be sure to make sure your writing is
dark!)
- FAX hand written work to the
teacher or CAL Online office (be sure to make sure your
writing is dark!)
