10.01 Simplifying Rational Expressions

Objective: To simplify rational expressions

Narration: A rational expression is in simplest form when the numerator and denominator have no common factors other than 1 or – 1.  You will need to first factor the numerator and denominator, then look for “ones” to reduce the rational expression.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson 11-3

Assignment: Page 434: #1 – 21

10.02 Multiplying and Dividing Rational Expressions

Objective: To multiply and divide rational expressions

Narration: Rational expressions follow all of the rules for multiplying and dividing fractions.  When multiplying, multiply numerators and multiply denominators.  When dividing, invert the second rational expression and then multiply.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson11-4

Assignment: Page 437: # 3 – 13, 25 – 28, Page 440: #7 – 17

10.03 Adding and Subtracting Rational Expressions with Like Denominators

Objective: To add and subtract rational expressions with like denominators

Narration: To add and subtract rational expression with like denominators, add or subtract the numerators, and write the sum or difference over the common denominator.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson 11-5

Assignment: Page 443, #4 – 14

10.04 Adding and Subtracting Rational Expressions with Unlike Denominators

Objective: To add and subtract rational expressions with unlike denominators

Narration: To add and subtract rational expression with unlike denominators, you must first convert the expressions so that the denominators are common to both.   This follows the same format as adding fraction with unlike denominators.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson 11-5

Assignment: Page 448: #7 – 12, Page 449: #35 – 42

10.05 Solving Rational Equations

Objective: To solve equations involving rational expressions

Narration: To solve a rational equation multiply both sides by the LCM of all the denominators.

Assignment: Page 453: #7 – 17

10.06 Work Problems

Objective: To solve problems using rational equations

Narration: In general, if a job can be completed in t hours, then 1/t of the job is completed in 1 hour.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson 11-7

Assignment: Page 458: #1 – 4

10.07 Mixture Problems

Objective: To solve problems involving the mixture of substances

Narration: The grid format that was used in motion problems will be used here.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson 7-4, 11-7

Assignment: Page 462-63:  #1 – 8

10.08 Complex Rational Expressions

Objective: To simplify rational expressions

Narration: A complex rational expression has a rational expression in the numerator or denominator or both.

Assignment: Page 470-471 : #7 – 9, 13 – 18

10.09 Shopping in Tokyo

Objective:  To apply the concept of rational expressions.

Narration: See this link to complete this assignment.

10.10 SET

Objective: To develop reasoning skills

Narration: The more frequently you play this game, the faster you will develop your mathematical reasoning skills!

Assignment: Continue to play the game of SET at least twice per week.  Continue to record your time on your Excel spreadsheet and email it to your teacher each week.

10.11  Self Test

Objective:  For you to complete the self test with a perfect score.

Narration:  Complete the self test which is a review of the concepts you learned in this lesson before you take the Module Test.
