13.01 Solving Quadratic Equations

Objective: To solve an equation in the form ax2 + bx + c = 0

Narration: If possible, factor the quadratic, then use the zero product property.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson 10-4

Assignment:  Page 578 – 579: #25 – 30, 49 – 54, Page 583: #7 – 14

13.02 Completing the Square

Objective:  To solve a quadratic equation by completing the square.

Narration: Completing the Square is a process that involves changing an expression to a trinomial square.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson 12-5

Assignment:  Page 588:  #10 – 18

13.03 Quadratic Formula

Objective:  To use the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations.

Narration: The discriminant determines how many solutions there are to the quadratic equation.

Algebra Notes - http://www.algebranotes.com/ - Lesson 9-6, 9-7

Assignment:  Page 593: #1 – 9, 45 – 48

13.04 Solving Rational Equations

Objective:  To solve rational equations involving quadratic equations.

Narration: Multiply both sides of the equation by the LCM of all the denominators.  Remember to check all possible solutions in the original equation because there may be extraneous solutions.

Assignment:  Page 596: #1 – 6, 16 – 18, 22 – 27

13.05 Solving Radical Equations

Objective:  To solve radical equations involving quadratic equations

Narration: When squaring both side of the equation to eliminate the radical, be sure to consider the need for parenthesis in the equation.

Assignment:  Page 600: #7 – 21

 13.06 Using Quadratic Equations

Objective:  To solve problems using quadratic equations

Narration: These word problems will generate quadratic equations.

Assignment:  Page 605: #1 – 3, 1 – 10

13.07 SET

Objective: To develop reasoning skills

Narration: The more frequently you play this game, the faster you will develop your mathematical reasoning skills!

Assignment: Continue to play the game of SET at least twice per week.  Continue to record your time on your Excel spreadsheet and email it to your teacher each week.

13.08  Self Test

Objective:  For you to complete the self test with a perfect score.

Narration:  Complete the self test which is a review of the concepts you learned in this lesson before you take the Module Test.
