Lesson 3 - Equivalent Fractions

Equivalent fractions are fractions that name the same amount (they are equal).   The fractions of the coin called, Pieces of Eight below have the same amount shaded.

One method to find equivalent 
factions is to multiply or divide the numerator and denominator 
by the same number--never zero.

         4_8.gif (898 bytes) divide2of2.gif (1159 bytes) 2_4.gif (892 bytes)

    Another method to test for
    equivalent fractions is to
    multiply in an "X" manner. 
    I call it, King Tut math.
