Sounds simple enough.   United States money is easy to keep straight in my mind because the 25 and the 2 are made of paper!  The fifty cents are coins.

So, $25.00 + $2.50 = $27.50

 

Another way to add numbers
with decimals (like money) is
to line up the decimals and add.
  
The same goes for subtracting
one decimal from another.  Here
is an example below.
  
   25.00
  2.50
   27.50
Remember; use the
rules of "carrying"
whenever needed.
   55.42
37.01
   18.41
Remember: use the
rules of "borrowing"
