Community input sought in LCAP development

On January 30, more than 350 people came together to study the District’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), hear from students about their experiences in CUSD schools and study performance data, all to further efforts to maximize student achievement.  The first of two district-wide meetings, the January 30 gathering is just one part of an extensive community engagement effort that occurs every year during the development of our LCAP.

The LCAP taps into the hundreds of existing connection points between the district, our students, parents, staff and the community at large to develop a plan to maximize services to every student, especially those facing the challenges associated with poverty, foster care and learning English as a second language.

Our current LCAP was developed using a process that included more than 100 workshops, and 900-plus individuals who attended meetings, along with more than 14,400 comments collected around the District.  Eight working groups and our Governing Board reviewed surveys, assessment results, state and local education priorities, school site plans, and our district’s strategic plan before creating a document that details actions and investments we are making into our educational programs.

Feedback gathered January 30 meeting will then be shared at individual school sites and in parent, employee and student meetings.  By mid-March a draft plan that will be developed and discussed at the second district-wide LCAP meeting in April.  Ultimately, the work of all of these groups will become an action plan for the coming school year that guides how the district spends its financial and human resources.

The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a three-year plan describing how District funds will be used from California’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) that is revised and adopted annually. Clovis Unified’s LCAP pairs student, parent, employee and community stakeholder feedback with proven learning strategies to create an action plan of services primarily supporting foster youth, English learner and low-income students.

This year Clovis Unified administration worked with the community to review and update the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).  Close to 100 school and district meetings were held with parents, students and staff to discuss how to best devote our limited resources to actions and services that support student success.
