Glossary of Terms
AT RISK STUDENTS - Students who are not progressing successfully through the educational system and have the potential to be dropouts.
ATYPICAL STUDENT - Relates to students whose abilities or behaviors preclude them from finding success in regular school programs.
CART - Center for Advanced Research and Technology.
GRADE LEVEL MEETING - Meetings between patents and teachers for a particular grade level (i.e. 1st grade) to review programs in which students will be involved during the year.
EUREKA (Grades 9-12) - Eureka is a computer-stored library of occupational and educational information located in the Career Center. Students can access information on over 400 colleges and occupations.
GATE – Gifted and Talented Education - This is a program designed to offer enrichment activities for students in grades 4-12 who have been identified as intellectually gifted or exceptionally talented in specific areas.
I.E.P. - Individualized Education Plan - The Individualized Education Plan is a program of study which outlines educational goals for special education students.
PROGRAM ADJUSTMENT - Rearranging the subject content or order of student’s daily class schedule of classes.
QUEST - This is a one-semester program that focuses on the developmental stages of adolescents.
Topics covered by students include:
- Building self-confidence
- Understanding and managing feelings
- Improving communication skills
- Improving relationships, friendships, and resisting negative peer pressure
- Setting goals for successful and healthy living
ROP – Regional Occupational Program - ROP classes are high quality technical and career training opportunities designed to meet the ever-changing needs of a global community and the individuals who live within the community.
SARB - School Attendance Review Board - The School Attendance Review Board is a group consisting of parents, educators, and community resource persons who assist students and their parents in overcoming problems that affect the students’ attendance.
SART – School Assessment Review Team - This is a group of volunteer parents who meet once a month with school site and/or district administrators. Through the course of meetings this group reviews the total educational services provided and acts as an advisory group, making suggestions for improvements.
S.A.T. - School Assessment Team - The School Assessment Team is a committee consisting of the school psychologist, special education teacher, other school assigned personnel, and parents and/or students. This team meets to review the student’s diagnostic testing and educational placement.
SST - STUDENT STUDY TEAM - This is a committee comprised of regular education school personnel consisting of the school principal (or designee), student’s classroom teacher, mentor teacher, and other school personnel, that review referrals of students that are exhibiting difficulties with regards to meeting academic goals.
504 - Part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that prohibits discrimination because of disability in federally funded agencies, like schools. It is CUSD Board Policy and Administrative Regulation No. 2109. |
