Dr. David Cash joined Clovis Unified on July 1, 2009 from his most recent position as superintendent of schools in the Claremont Unified School District, a position he held for the past three years. He was formerly employed as the assistant superintendent of Education and Assessment Services in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. Dr. Cash has had teaching and administrative experience in all levels of education. After teaching at the high school and elementary levels as well as in special education, Dr. Cash went on to be a superintendent of a small school district where he worked with the community to pass a bond measure and begin the planning for both modernization and new construction projects. In addition, he was a principal at the Elementary, Junior High and High School levels in Santa Barbara County. “I feel strongly that a leader is truly a facilitator, one who brings together the expertise necessary, encourages the development of everyone’s natural strengths, and then provides and sustains opportunities for growth,” states Dr. Cash when asked to summarize what he brings to Clovis as the superintendent.
Before entering the field of education, Dr. Cash was a partner in a law firm in Oregon and Washington. This experience has given him a unique perspective on the impact of thoughtful planning and decision-making. Dr. Cash states, “I am thankful for my career in law, as it helped contribute to who I am as a leader today. But I felt that I needed to make a positive difference on a more personal and meaningful level. I found that a difference can be made in working with students. As the superintendent, I have worked with our community to continue making a positive difference not only in students’ achievement but also in providing them with the experiences necessary to help them feel connected and valued by our community.”
Dr. Cash is a native of Long Beach, California, graduating from Long Beach Wilson High School. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of California and his Juris Doctorate at Willamette University. Dr. Cash earned a teaching credential, learning handicapped credential, resource specialist certificate, and administrative credential at the University of California. He was awarded a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California in 2008. |
