Monday, March 20 at 5:30 p.m., the Governing Board held a Special Meeting that culminated in the announcement that Corrine Folmer, Ed.D., would become the district’s next superintendent when Superintendent Eimear O’Brien, Ed.D. retires June 30. The unanimous vote caps an eight-week search process that spanned the state, and included multiple community and staff meetings, input opportunities, and a more than 30-member community/employee interview panel. Corrine Folmer, Ed.D., will assume the role July 1, 2023.
“Dr. Folmer fosters a culture of teamwork and openness everywhere she goes. She leads by valuing, hearing and motivating those around her,” said Board President David DeFrank, who along with members Tiffany Stoker Madsen and Hugh Awtrey served on a work group facilitating the search process on behalf of the board. “The effectiveness of her approach is reflected in the substantial improvement of student outcomes during her leadership of the Clovis East area. Her breadth of experience and the respect she enjoys throughout our organization will serve her well as she leads the district in our never-ending pursuit of excellence and a fair break for every kid,” DeFrank said.
A graduate of Clovis Unified, Dr. Folmer is an experienced educational leader whose career spans both elementary and secondary educational roles. During a 20-year career in Clovis Unified, she has served as a teacher, guidance instructional specialist, learning director, elementary principal, and assistant superintendent of the Clovis East Area. Since 2019, Dr. Folmer has served as the district’s Associate Superintendent of School Leadership where she oversaw all of the district’s schools. Prior to working in Clovis Unified, she was a teacher and resource specialist in Sierra Unified School District.
The Ralph M. Brown Public Meeting Act requires public agencies to vote on contracts for top level leaders at a regular meeting of the Governing Board. To fulfill this requirement, a representative of the Governing Board will work with Dr. Folmer to finalize an employment contract, which will be considered for approval by the Governing Board at its regularly scheduled meeting March 29, 2023. Once approved, the contract will become a public record.
