What is CalSTRS?

The California State Teachers' Retirement System was established by law in 1913 to provide retirement benefits to California's public school educators from prekindergarten through community college. CalSTRS is the largest educator-only pension fund in the world.

CUSD is part of the Defined Benefit Program that provides retirement, survivor and disability benefits.  Your Defined Benefit retirement benefit is based on a formula set by law using your age, service credit and final compensation.  Please see the CalSTRS Member Handbook in the downloads section to the right.
