CUSD Employee's Share Peer Counselings Impact

I was a transfer my junior year from a small town.  Moving to not only a new campus but a huge campus in Buchanan.  I was an athlete and had friends from the team and a few friends from my classes.  The day I was asked to be a part of peer counseling was that moment when I felt like I was a part of the school culture and began to meet people I would not have crossed paths with.  It allowed me to open up a bit more and pushed me to not only listen, support and help others, but also to help me grow in an environment that was new to me. Mando Mendez (Reyburn Intermediate Teacher)

When I was in Peer Counseling, I went through training for suicide awareness. I helped a student who was at the lowest point in their life, they turned it around and found joy. I still keep in contact with that person and they are doing well, this was almost 30 years ago. This has made a huge impact on my life that each one of us can make a difference for the good of others.  Heather Burton (Clovis West School Teacher)
