Aquatic Academy Vision
There is many times a struggle to get children to transitioning from swim lessons to an Aquatic Sport. The Aquatic Academy is desgined to address that purpose. It is not to teach someone to swim, and not designed to be a fitness group, but rather that group between that is so often not available.
Clovis Aquatics Approach:
We want to develop and promote excellence in Aquatics. In this environment we recognize the need to provide the programming to develop the various stages. We also believe that swimming is the foundation of foundation, as walking and running is the foundation of so many land sports. We look for young children to begin with the foundation to give them opportunity to be the best that they can be, no matter which sport they choose to commit towards later down the line.
Aquatic Academy
White
This Group is designed to take swimmers that are capable of swimming comfortably in the water on their own and ready for instruction from a coach on the pool deck. This group focuses on developing freestyle with side breathing, Backstroke, and fundamental skills of swimming.
There is no Water Polo aspect of this group and they will practice once a week for one hour. Advancment to Red or Blue can occur at anytime during a season.
Swim Meets
Academy Red and Blue participants are encouraged to attend our District Meets that we offer throughout the year. Most of the district meets are in the summer, but there some meets also available throughout the year. Academy White participants will not be permitted to compete, as they are not ready. Swim Meets are an important aspect of swimming. The Goal Process includes Result based goals and Process Based Goals. The Swim Meets allow swimmers to have a base line for Result based goals. When they are young, it is when most of the progress is recognizable, and many times when we see the most interest is developed during this phase before the training gets strenuous on the mind and body.
Academy participants may purchase a USA Swimming Membership to participate in USA Swimming Swim Meets and for times to official times at our “Block Party” Meets. You will need to contact KacyOta@cusd.com to ask for the link to register for Clovis Swim Club. (USA Swimming Membership is required for our Sharks, Pre-Senior, and Senior Level Groups).
Aquatic Academy
Red
This Group is designed to introduce Competitive Swimming and Water Polo. There are 3 swimming practices per week and 1 water polo practice (not exact breakdown of every week for every session). The focus is to develop basic strokes, basic water polo skills, and fundamental skills of swimming. This group is designed for ages 5 – 11 years old and is an ability based group. This group is paced with the idea that participants plan to do multiple seasons throughout the year, and not a lesson plan that tries to cram everything into a single season.
Aquatic Academy
Blue
This Group is designed for participants looking for a practice more designed for conditioning purposes. The group still covers basic stroke technique. This group does not include any water polo aspect, but can easily be done with a water polo program for conditioning and better skills to improve speed in the water.
Participants must be at least 12 years old to participate in the Academy Blue Group.
