In Clovis Unified, we value and prioritize the safety of our students and staff. Enhanced training and protocol refinement with staff and area law enforcement is ongoing.
We have extensive safety plans in place at every school, and we regularly conduct practice drills (including lock down, fire, facility alert and evacuation drills) so that our staff and students are very familiar with these procedures. We also have a trained team of sworn police officers in place in Clovis Unified to provide another line of defense to protect our schools. In addition, we collaborate with local law enforcement agencies to provide active shooter training to our school staffs and to ensure our safety plans reflect best practices for safety.
Last year, the district successfully implemented Catapult, a communication system that increases the speed of a campus lockdown and allows for quicker messaging. In the 2023-24 school year, an automated system that can lock unmanned campus doors from a remote location is being test piloted in anticipation of refining the process and implementing at all CUSD campuses.
Students and staff will continue to take part in training and safety drill practices on procedures throughout the year.
