How to Enroll Your Child

Registration during the school year

During the school year, new students may be registered weekdays at school sites from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Registration during the summer months

During the summer months, students may be registered for the upcoming school year at the Student Services & School Attendance  located at 1465 David E. Cook Way in Clovis, Monday through Thursday during the hours of 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4:30 p.m., June 23, 2008  – August 7, 2008.  Office will be closed July 4.  After these dates, students may be registered at the appropriate school site.

Final school placement for students registered this summer will be based upon class size, classroom space and total school enrollment. Please contact your school after August 11 (grades K-6) or August 4 (grades 7-12), regarding the final placement status for your student. For high school and intermediate students, enrollment will not be complete and classes scheduled until schools re-open in August.

CALIFORNIA EDUCATION CODE SECTION 48000-48002 READS:

48000. (a) A child shall be admitted to a kindergarten at the beginning of a school year, or at any later time in the same year if the child will have his or her 5th birthday on or before December 2 of that school year.

At the time of enrollment, the following requirements must be presented:
  • A birth certificate or other birth record, such as baptismal certificate;
  • Child's social security card or number;
  • Proof of residence, which includes a PG&E bill, escrow instructions (in some cases), renter's agreement or a mortgage statement;
  • California Immunization Record with evidence of up-to-date Polio, DTP (Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and Varicella (Chickenpox vaccine). The Hepatitis B series (series of 3 shots over a 6-month period) is required for students entering kindergarten and seventh grade;
  • Evidence of Mantoux intradermal skin test (tuberculosis screening) must be presented.

Immunization Information

Fresno County requires that each child entering kindergarten receive the Mantoux intradermal skin test within one year of entrance into school (includes preschool). The skin test must be read and documented by a physician or health care professional trained in determining positive or negative readings. The Hepatitis B series (3 shots) are also required for children entering kindergarten. Effective July 1, 2001, all entering kindergarten children are required to receive the Chickenpox vaccine (varicella) or have documented proof (by a healthcare professional) that they have had the disease. Any student registering in California schools from out of state, grades 1-12, without documentation of having had Chickenpox, will also need the varicella vaccine. Registrations will not be completed without proof of the above immunizations. For your convenience, Clovis Unified School District, in cooperation with the State Department of Health and the Fresno County Health Services Agency offers free immunizations during the school year if your child is not up-to-date.
