Facts
Minors employed in the state of California must have a Permit to Employ and Work (work permit).
Work permits indicate the duties and location where the work will be done as well as the number of hours a minor may work.
The Student along with the parent/guardian and employer must fill out the Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit-Certificate of Age (B1-1 Form) to receive a Permit to Employ and Work (work permit).

Once all these steps are completed, the student will be cleared to work and may begin working. Students should be aware of the date their work permit expires and complete the steps to obtain a new work permit.
- Complete an application and be issued a work permit.
- A reference check will be provided to Human Resources by the hiring manager.
- Once a reference check and work permit is received in HR, the student will be scheduled to attend an orientation.
- After the orientation, 3 forms will need to be completed and submitted online.

- Payroll Packet
- I-9 Employment Verification
- The student will meet with their HR Specialist in person and provide the required documents. At this time, a photo will be taken, and the student will receive an employee badge
