First Aid CPR/AED Annual Communications

Based on industry standards and OSHA guidelines, the CUSD First Aid CPR/AED Training Program is administed through the Health & Safety Institute (HSI) with oversight from the District’s Risk and Benefits Manager and Director of Nursing.

All certifications are valid for 2 years from the issue date.

Adult Age Group

Our program issued certifications for the Adult age group, applying to individuals 8 years of age and older.

Mandated Skills Testing

All trainees are required to complete in-person, hands-on skills testing, including certifications from external agencies.

Unacceptable Certifications

Certifications from external agencies that provide online-only training will not be accepted.

HR Clearance Required

Training through the District is provided free-of-charge, but trainees must be cleared to work by Human Resources prior to registering.

New Certification Courses

These in-person courses are about 4 hours long. Includes video instruction & hands-on skills testing with a certified instructor. Class registration is mandatory due to regulations of instructor-to-student ratios. No walk-ins are accepted.

Who is for?

• Individuals who have never trained in Adult First Aid CPR/AED
• Individuals who have a certification card that does not meet CUSD training standards
• Individuals with a previous certification card that is more than 6 months expired

Recertification (Renewal) Training

These trainings are conducted using a two-part blended learning method, with online instruction modules followed by in-person skills testing with a certified instructor. The training process must be completed within 3 months of starting.

Who is it for?

• Individuals who have a current CUSD-compliant Adult First Aid CPR/AED certification card that is expiring soon or expired within the last 6 months

Additional Coaching Requirements

In addition to Adult First Aid CPR/AED, all coaches must complete three additional trainings for concussion in sports, sudden cardiac arrest, and heat illness prevention.

Aquatics

If Basic Water Safety or Lifeguard Training is required, training is provided through the Aquatics Department.

If the District does not have a new certification course available within a timeframe that a trainee needs, training can be obtained from an outside agency. However, the agency must meet the following requirements:

• Course covers all three core skills of first aid, CPR, AED for at least the Adult age group (no exceptions)
• In-person, hands-on skills testing is conducted with a certified instructor from the agency before a certification card is issued
  • Online-only certification will not be accepted
• The course must meet OSHA training requirements in addition to all the requirements listed above. Most organizations will state this in the course description

While CUSD does not offer blended/hybrid learning course options for New Certification trainees, the District does accept certification cards from agencies that provide courses with blended/hybrid learning options, as long as the issuing agency meets the requirements listed above.

Request Approval for External Certifications!

Your employees, coaches, and volunteers can now submit a Request for Approval for their external certification cards directly through the Risk Management Office!

The Request for Approval is submitted through Informed K12. Any approved certifications will automatically be added to the District certification database.
