Enrollment Opportunities

- Initial enrollment occurs when employees first become eligible for benefits through the District.
- Eligible dependents can be added to the coverage during the initial enrollment process as long as proper dependent verification documents are provided. See below for more details.
- Open Enrollment is an annual 6-week period during April & May that allows benefitted employees to make changes to their coverage.
- Eligible dependents can be added/removed for any reason as long as proper dependent verification documents are provided.
- Any changes to dependents will be effective on the following September 1st.
- Examples of Change in Life Events: Marriage, divorce, birth, death, change in Group Health Coverage, etc.
- Any valid event must be reported within 31 days of the event occurring**
- Proof/documentation of the event must be provided along with proper dependent verification documents. See below for more details.
- Changes to coverage are effective on the first of the month following the Change in Life Event.
- EXCEPTION: Newborns will be effective as of their date of birth.
**If the 31-day window is missed, the next opportunity to enroll will not be until the following Open Enrollment OR qualifying Change in Life event.
