The belief that you either get math or you don’t, and that only some people are able to understand mathematics permeates our society. But just as all students can learn to read, all students can learn to do and understand mathematics. Fixed mindsets about our ability as math learners encourages us to give up at the first sign of struggle, instead of recognizing this struggle as a chance for growth. In this video, students from our 8th grade Summer Math Academy discuss their learning around growth mindset, and how that will affect the choices they make as math learners going forward.
