The Graduation Rate portion of the high school dashboard is calculated based on the class cohort. Any student who starts the 9th grade (or at any time after the first school day of a student’s 9th grade year) at a particular high school remains with that cohort until the graduation year (Class of 20XX). If a student transfers and enrolls in another in-state high school as determined by the California Department of Education (or confirms a transfer to another out-of-state high school) then that student is dropped from the high school cohort and is no longer considered part of the high school graduating Class of 20XX and cannot count towards or against that schools graduation rate.
Who counts against a class’ graduation rate: Students who drop from their high school but never re-enroll at another In-State high school, students who drop after passing the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), students dropping/transferring to Adult School Education (for a GED or high school diploma), students who receive a Certificate of Completion instead of a diploma, and finally, students NOT completing the graduation requirements on time with their starting cohort (Class of 20XX).
