The Position

The Governing Board of the Clovis Unified School District invites visionary, highly qualified educators with proven leadership skills to apply for the position of Superintendent in this truly superior district. The Superintendent provides the overall leadership for curriculum and instruction, standards and assessment, finance, budgeting, personnel and school facilities.

The Superintendent is responsible for the development of communication, collaboration, and outreach with the community, parents, staff and Governing Board.

Education/Experience

  • Experience as a teacher, principal, district office or executive level administrator and/or superintendent is desired.
  • Experience as a school/district administrator in the State of California is required.
  • A doctorate in Education Leadership is preferred.

  • Finalists will be required to submit official transcripts for all earned degrees and a copy of all credentials held.
  • A letter of application.
  • A résumé.
  • Three current letters of recommendation.
  • Essay responses to two writing prompts: 
    • What has motivated you to apply specifically for the role of Superintendent of the Clovis Unified School District? (300 words maximum)
    • Describe a substantial challenge you faced in the educational environment within the past five years and describe the leadership strategies you employed to navigate that challenge? (500 words maximum).

Salary and Contract

The salary will be competitive and based upon qualifications and experience. A multi-year contract will be offered.

Selection Process

The Governing Board is conducting its search over the course of January – March 2023. The Governing Board will screen applications for interviews and further consideration in March. Selected candidates will be invited to a panel interview comprised of employees and community members in mid/late March with interviews by the Governing Board to follow. Any contact with Board members in an attempt to influence the selection process will be considered a breach of professional ethics.

Governing Board members reserve the right to visit the district schools/communities of a candidate prior to making a final decision. The Superintendent will be expected to begin July 1, 2023.
